Call for Applications for Editor-in-Chief of Genocide Studies and Prevention Journal
IAGS is calling for applications for Editor-in-Chief of its journal, Genocide Studies and Prevention (GSP).
GSP is a peer-reviewed multi-disciplinary journal that fosters comparative research, important new work, case studies, the links between genocide, mass violence and other human rights violations, and prevention and punishment of genocide and mass violence.

GSP is currently looking for an Editor-in-Chief, a volunteer position at one of the leading journals in the field.
The Journal:
Genocide Studies and Prevention: An International Journal publishes empirical and theoretical work that deals with collective violence, with a focus on genocides. It promotes the scholarly discussion of concepts and cases that address the causes (roots), occurrences, consequences, and the prevention and punishment of such violence. This (double-blind) peer-reviewed and open access journal publishes articles on the latest developments in policy, research, and theory from various disciplines and fields including anthropology, criminology, education, gender studies, history, law, literature, philosophy, political science, psychology, religious studies, social theory, sociology, arts and cultural expression. It features full research and state of the field articles, case studies, field notes, translations of important works from languages other than English, art and literature pieces, as well as book and film reviews. The journal has a diversified and vast readership, with more than 140,000 downloads per year globally.
Position details:
GSP is a team effort. The Editor-in-Chief has to create a collaborative work environment that motivates and enables all team members to do their best. The anticipated start date is 1 July 2025. The appointment will be for two years; with the possibility to then reapply for further service in the role.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
● Uphold the academic integrity and independence of GSP.
● Prepare all relevant decisions regarding the journal’s mid-and long-term strategy as well as the day-to-day business.
● Advise all team members regarding their work, e.g., communication with authors and reviewers, final decisions on submissions in case of conflicting reviews. Ensure that the journal’s work is being carried out in a timely manner.
● Provide regular updates (at least every six months) to the IAGS Executive Board.
● Prepare annual report on activities, statistics, finances, and future planning of journal
● Writing an update section for each IAGS member newsletter.
● Oversee provision of regular statements from GSP editors for use on IAGS social media.
● Representing GSP at IAGS conferences and networking events.
Qualifications:
● Mid-career or senior scholar active in the field/s relevant for GSP and with experience in editing academic peer-reviewed publications.
● The ability to provide support for the editorial team and to create a positive working relationship with all individuals and institutions involved.
● Experience with multiple disciplines relevant to genocide studies, a commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship, and appreciation for the full range of disciplinary approaches to the field.
● Attention to detail, organisational skills, and leadership attributes.
Process:
The call for applications will remain open until the position is filled. The search committee will be formed with representatives from the IAGS Executive Board, IAGS Advisory Board, and GSP Editorial Board.
